"The Final Inspection"

The policeman stood and faced his God, which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No Lord. I guess I ain't.
Because those who carry badges can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays, and at times my talk was rough...
and sometimes I've been violent because the streets are awful tough.

But I never took a penny that wasn't mine to keep...
though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help, though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place among the people here.
They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much.  But if you don't...I'll understand."

There was silence all around the throne where the saints had often trod,
as the policeman waited quietly for the judgement of his God.

"Step forward now, policeman.
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on heaven's streets.
You've done your time in hell."

To all of our fellow Brothers and Sisters that were lost on that tragic day six years ago our thoughts and prayers are with your families and friends. Your heroic acts will never be forgotten as well as you will never be forgotten. To all other Brothers and Sisters throughout the World who are protecting the citizens in your City,Town or State please be safe. To our Brothers and Sisters whose names are etched at the National Law Enforcement Memorial you too are true heros and
shall never be forgotten
Oh Almighty God, whose great power and eternal wisdom embraces the universe.

Watch over all policemen and law enforcement officers.

Father in Heaven please give them the strength, courage and perseverance to endure

The unjust condemnation, danger, and physical abuse to which they are at times subjected.

We recommend them to your loving care because their duty is dangerous.

Dear God, grant these brave men your almighty protection,

Unite them safely with their families after duty has ended.

Amen

The Thin Blue Line is a phrase known world wide to Police Officers...It denotes the final barrier which stands between our citizens and chaos. The only time this line is disrupted is when an Officer has fallen or is injured in the course of executing his sworn duty. At the end of duty, when this breach appears, our youngest, and finest step up to fill in the line and help maintain order and serve our citizens.
